Remembering "Rowdy" Roddy Piper

Today is truly another sad day in professional wrestling and another gigantic loss. Rowdy Piper passed away Friday afternoon in his sleep of cardiac arrest. This comes as a huge blow and another major loss in WWE. Piper was WWE's rebel and wildman in the 80's into the early 90's but his legend started long before he ever got to WWE. He had come classic matches in the NWA, and CWF-Mid Atlantic. He ran hard with Ric Flair and had a brutal Dog Collar Match against Greg Valentine.

In the WWE, he feuded against Hulk Hogan, Rick Rude, Ted Dibiase, and Ric Flair. He was an Intercontinental Champion, and a Tag Team Champion. There are a lot of great memories that I have like Pipers Pit with Morton Downey Jr., his epic promo against Hulk Hogan at Halloween Havoc 1996, and his personal hatred for Mr. T. I have to say my all time favorite moment was the Hollywood Backlot Brawl at Wrestlemania 12 against Goldust. They say pro wrestling is fake but there was nothing fake about Roddy's intensity during that match or in his career. Rowdy was a one of a kind unique performer who will never be duplicated or replicated.

After WWE he spent three years on and off in WCW fighting against the nWo. Piper was still a big name in the industry but his role like many others was mismanaged in the company. He did have some great matches against Hogan, Flair and the nWo. After WCW shut down he traveled around the indies, TNA, and Ring of Honor. He was enshrined into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2005. He still made occasional appearances and still made an impact.

One thing that made Piper awesome was his mic skills and how he could come up with some great lines that stood out. Here are some of my favorite quotes from Piper:

“I came here to chew bubblegum and kick ass, and I'm all outta bubblegum.”
"You don't throw rocks at a man with a machine gun!"
"Just when they think they have the answers, I change the questions."

"Sooner or later, everybody pays the Piper!"
"I'm so quick, I could spit in the wind, duck, and let it hit the old lady behind me."

Roddy Piper will never ever be forgotten by those who watched him and worked with him. He was Rowdy before rowdy was cool. My thoughts and prayers go out to Roddy's family, friends and to all those who loved him. 

Kyle Busch Deserves a Chase Spot No Matter What

As everyone knows Kyle Busch did not start of the 2015 NASCAR season the way he wanted to.He crashed hard into the wall at Daytona during an XFinity race. He returned in May and has been working hard to make the chase since his return. The rules NASCAR set are that if he can crack the top 30 in points that he will be eligible to make the race. Usually I would agree with that but under the circumstances of how Busch is performing he deserves a spot no matter what at this point. 

In eight races he has three wins, and one top ten. He has had two bad races but in the other six he has ran consistently well. The fact that he has three wins is really impressive considering everything he had to overcome. I don't think he should be punished for something that was out of his control. It's not his fault that the other drivers on the circuit while he was gone. There were many opportunities for drivers to win a race and they didn't. I would have had reservations about this if would have had 1 win but you can't ignore three wins with or without the rules.

I really hope Kyle Busch does make the Chase for the Sprint Cup on points to avoid any and all arguments about whether or not he should be involved. He has seven more races to crack the top 30 in points and I truly believe he will have no problem doing so. Busch definitely has my respect and admiration for what he's done so far during his comeback. It's inspiring and motivational to watch someone have the great of a comeback after a major injury like Busch had, Good luck to Kyle Busch the rest of the way. Hopefully the Chase gets Rowdy when it starts in two months. 

Results, Review, Recap of WWE Battleground 2015

Tonight St. Louis was the place for a perfect Battlegound. This was the best opportunity for WWE to build up for WWE's Summerslam. Before I begin here are the results:

-Preshow Match: King Barrett defeated R-Truth
-Randy Orton defeated Sheamus
-Prime Time Players defeated The New Day to retain the WWE Tag Team Championship
-Bray Wyatt defeated Roman Reigns
-Charlotte defeated Sasha Banks and Bri Bella in a triple threat match.
-John Cena defeated Kevin Owens to retain the WWE United States Champion
-Brock Lesnar and Seth Rollins ended in a No Contest

I was really happy to see the Prime Time Players retain the Tag Titles. They have been a team far too long to have a 5 week reign. It's very well deserved and until The Uso's are back, they are the best team in the division. I think the invasion of the NXT Divas is the best things that's happen to the Divas Division in a long time. Banks, Lynch and Charlotte are the fuel to the fire that the Division needs so it was good to the daughter of Flair win her first WWE pay-per-view match. I love the fact they kept up with the Intercontinental Title storyline when Big Show knocked out The Miz. Hopefully we will see that match down the road.

It was really disappointing more people weren't into the Roman Reigns-Bray Wyatt match until the end of it. I personally didn't it was that bad of match. I really wish people would stop hating on Reigns. I got it at first but the guy is working his butt off. He's done more then anyone has asked for since Wrestlemania so he needs to be given the shot that he originally was suppose to have. I personally don't Wyatt-Reigns should have been booked to begin with. A lost by either guy would kill a lot of momentum for where their suppose to go. I am absolutely disgusted that John Cena went over on Kevin Owens. He got to kill the momentum of Rusev at Wrestlemania and now he got to derail Kevin Owens early WWE career. This really feels like a Vince McMahon decision and that's why he needs to step down and let Stephanie and Triple H run the company.

In the Main Event, Seth Rollins was dominated Brock Lesnar in the early going. Rollins had some offense but Lesnar dominated. It looked like Lesnar had the title won until the gong hit and the lights went out. The Undertaker appeared and did the Tombstone to Lesnar twice to end the show. Overall with all the hype, rumors and attention this pay-per-view was getting it was kind of a letdown leading up to Summerslam. Yes, The Undertaker showed up but that was spoiled by all these "journalists" who reported that The Undertaker and Sting would be at Battleground. This is another reason why I hate all the pro wrestling "journalists." They make up garbage, then the fans buy into it and then when it doesn't happen the fans crap all over the product or when it does happen it's not a surprise any longer.

Overall I would give the show 6 out of 10 for not living up to the hype and for WWE allowing their surprises to be leaked. I truly hope the next four weeks of television builds up Summerslam to be a great show because tonight did very little to do so. Summerslam is four weeks but until then soak in what you saw tonight and hope for better the next time around.

The Re-Evolution of Women in WWE

This past Monday on Raw, WWE fans across the world got a moment they were longing for. For about the last 10 years since the careers of the Lita and Trish Stratus ended the Divas Division has been the sacrificial lamb of WWE. It's been the match to calm people before the main event, and it's been known as the bathroom break match. The Divas have not gotten the respect that many feel they deserve. Over the last year and a half the women of the NXT brand have been making a lot noise and gaining notoriety that women in WWE haven't seen in the years. The reason I call it the the re-evolution is because this is isn't the first time Divas evolved. In the early 2000's when Divas weren't really doing much then a long came ladies like Trish Stratus, Lita, Chyna, Jacqueline, Ivory, Molly Holly, Victoria, and Jazz. Before them there was Alundra Blayze and Sable but they really had no competition for them to shine.

Since Lita and Trish ended their careers I am going to give you a list of all the women who either held the Divas or Womens title. I am going to either put good or bad by their name. Good means that they were a positive for the Divas Division and bad means they were a negative for the Divas Division:

With the majority of the Divas between 2006 and now being decent why didn't they get put into the spotlight? May it's because they didn't have a good background story? Maybe it's because they were pretty faces with forced ability and no passion? Maybe it's because they weren't developed in a system like the NXT women? It could be all of these things but I still think some of them would fit well in today's Divas Division.

Sasha Banks, Becky Lynch, Charlotte and Paige all have great stories. They have all have backgrounds and they all have the passion to be the best.  A lot of people are conflicted that they were introduced by Stephanie McMahon but the words behind the introduction were powerful and inspiring. I think the Divas Division is going to become the highlight of the rest of 2015 and into 2016. If I were to rank the top 15 Divas in WWE and in NXT here is how I would rank them

I honestly haven't been this excited about women in wrestling for a long time. The future is here, now and ready to shine. It's time for women in the WWE to steal the spotlight and steal the show. Kris Bryant is having a hell of a year as a rookie. The Cubs have life in them for the first time in years. It's crazy because the Cubs have two chances to win the Derby.

Josh Donaldson is one of those stars that flies under the radar playing for the Blue Jays. But you're right. The guy has talent. He's been a budding star since playing with the A's. 21 HR's at the break. You can't count him out of this.

I think he beats Rizzo but could run into a beast mode killer in either Frazier or Fielder.

I don't think Fielder will go any farther then first round...He's getting older and really isn't in shape like he should be. Because of the time limit stamina will be a HUGE factor

See I think Fielder is in better shape than he was with Detroit. I think he'll give Frazier a good run for his money.

MVP? You know. Pujols has a shot at MVP. He's returned to his old self from when he was with the Cardinals.

You know who we forgot to mention though. Poor Manny Machado and Joc Pederson in this contest. How do you see their chances? Slim to none?

Machado and Pederson would be pissed if people like us kept overlooking them. I think on any given night anyone could be a killer in the Derby. Look how it made Josh Hamilton a superstar when he dominated at Yankee Stadium

A Rod snubbed? Or blackballed? You be the judge.

With the MLB All Star Game looming just a mere seven days away. There's been a lot of media hype surround Cincinatti for various reasons. We will see the Home Run Derby. We will see Pete Rose make a triumphant return to what was once his city. And yes, we will see the All-Star Game itself. Where the National League takes on the American League for homefield advantage in the World Series. The teams have been chosen and there have been a few surprises that made the team. There is one big surprise however, in who was left off. Alex Rodriguez, did not make the AL All Stars.

Now I know a lot of people will state. "So what. He didn't make the team. The guy is a cheater!" I say this about the All-Star games and the Hall Of Fame. If you dig really deep and take out everyone who was dirty and didn't use anything to get an edge in the game. Take them all out of the All Star Games and out of the Hall Of Fame, you'll have a few empty Hall Of Fame and very few people on the All Star teams. So please check your morals at the door.

Alex Rodriguez deserves to be there. Plain an simple. His numbers. .283 batting average. 16 home runs. 47 RBI's. While not earth shattering. Are pure and very strong numbers alone at this point in the season. And sure if you put him up against Nelson Cruz and Prince Fielder. The two DH's on the AS team. His numbers aren't quite up to par with those in his specific position. However, you could surely make a case for him against some of the reserves.

A-Rod versus Brock Holt. I have seriously never even heard of Brock Holt until he was elected to go to this years All Star team. But look at his line. .294 batting average 2 HR's and 21 RBI's. and a .802 OPS which is nothing compared to A-Rods .902 OPS. Yet A-Rod is out and this guy is in. The AL has many relief pitchers in. Brad Boxberger? Who is that? Who the hell knows. One of the most under the radar closers in the game makes it to the game and is stunned when he gets the phone call stating he made it. He gets in and A-Rod is shunned. John Kruk made one of the dumbest statements on ESPN when he stated the number don't back up A-Rod getting in. Ok they sure in the hell don't back up Brock Holt or even Russell Martin compared to A-Rod. But yet Yost snubbed him in favor of his boys or another fielder.

Which all of this makes me wonder. Has A-Rod been blackballed here? He didn't even get a shot at making it with the AL's final vote. I have an odd feeling that with his past even if he had a .340/25/65 line right now. He wouldn't make the team anyway. Just purely because of his history. And it's not right. He's an all-star personality. He'd put asses in the seats. And we all know this year is pure. The guy's urine has to be like spring water for him to even be able to play. I frankly don't find it right. He's almost 40, and he's putting up these kinds of numbers. We know A-Rod will be retiring soon. One more All Star game would've given him some sort of redemption for his past. However with 14 All Star Games behind him. It's not something I'm sure he'll be missing much sleep over.

The HOF snub that may come after he retires might be a different story however. Let's just hope this isn't the trend for a player who would've had the numbers no matter what era he played in.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. Highlights My Favorite Fourth of July Memories

For as long as I can remember, one of NASCAR's greatest races, on perhaps it's greatest track, is held on every 4th of July weekend. Most people look at the Daytona 500 as the greatest race in stock car racing. but how can you not put the 400 mile race right up there with it? The special paint schemes, the patriotism and the fact it's under the lights makes for a great race. I've been watching this race since I was a child. Looking back on it, I have two very distinct memories of the 4th of July weekend in Daytona. 

In 2001, NASCAR lost arguably its greatest driver in Dale Earnhardt Sr. on the last lap of the Daytona 500.  Two of Dale Sr's cars finished first and second, but unfortunately, neither Michael Waltrip or Dale Jr. could celebrate. They mourned and Waltrip's victory was the backstory to the tragedy the occurred that day. Fast forward five months at the Daytona night race and the return to the track that claimed a father and a team owner's life. Michael Waltrip and Dale Earnhardt Jr. teamed up to finish first and second again. This time, Junior was first and Waltrip was second. They got to celebrate the two Daytona victories together. I can honestly say as a fan of both Earnhardt's, I was overcome with emotion. In my heart and mind, I still believe this was and is the greatest victory Junior ever had. Any normal person would have dreaded going back to the place where their father passed away; however, Junior and Waltrip took all the emotion and gave everyone some iconic images that will never be forgotten.

We fast forward to 2010, when Dale Jr. drove for Richard Childress in the Nationwide Race. He drove the iconic Wrangler #3 car, which was his dad's first big sponsor in NASCAR. It was the old school paint scheme with a modern day look. I truly believe the Intimidator was inside Junior that night and that it was destiny to win that race. A lot of people thought when Senior passed away, the number died with him. Junior gave everyone their dream for one night and made the most of it. I think it gave Junior, Richard Childress and NASCAR some closure into everything that happened nine years earlier. 

I personally love the Coke Zero, Pepsi, or Firecracker 400. It doesn't matter what you call it, because the race speaks for itself. I always keep a close eye on the number 88 to see what magic he comes up with. Dale Earnhardt Jr., and the rest of the Sprint Cup drivers always put on a good race on the 4th of July, and I am sure in the years to come, we will be provided with more memories and iconic images from the greatest track in America. I can't wait for the fireworks on and off the track at Daytona.

Breaking Down the July 4th WWE Japan Show

On July 4th WWE will be live on the WWE Network from Tokyo, Japan and it promises to be a spectacular show. Japan is very well known for it's traditional pro wrestling roots and is more about the wrestling then it is about the entertainment. WWE has put a lot of effort into making this a pro wrestling show. Here is the card and my thoughts for July 4th in Tokyo. 

WWE NXT Title Match: Finn Balor vs. Kevin Owens

I truly believe this is a win-win for everyone involved. I believe Finn Balor will walk out new NXT Champion but it reassures us that Kevin Owens is on the main roster permantly and has a real shot to defeat John Cena at WWE Battleground on July 19. The founder of the Bullet Club is coming home and his return will be grand.

WWE Divas Title Match: Naomi vs. Paige vs. Nikki Bella

The Japanese fans appreciate great wrestling and the best wrestler in this match is Paige by far. I believe this her chance to shine again and become the most dominant Diva in WWE. I believe that an NXT Diva or two could have an affect on the outcome of this match especially if they're related to Flair

Brock Lesnar vs. Kofi Kingston

I can sum this very simple. Kofi Kingston is going to be destroyed! If the New Day gets involved then it's the end of them as we know it. There will be no new day tomorrow once Lesnar gets his hands on Kingston. I'll give this match no more then five minutes. If it goes longer I will be shocked!

Neville vs. Chris Jericho

This could definitely be the match of the night and possibly match of the year. Y2J has very strong roots to Japan and I hope we see the return of Lionheart, Neville has had some great matches thus far in WWE but I believe this one will put him to the test. Neville will win and continue to build his momentum forward

John Cena and Dolph Ziggler vs. Kane and King Barrett

A very random match you might only see at a typical WWE Live Event. This is not a typical live event considering it's being aired on the Network. It's very simple. All four men are main event caliber performers and they will have a great match. I have a feeling with Ziggler re-signing with WWE that he will be the shining star in this match and probably get the victory.

The Lucha Dragons vs. Big E and Xavier Woods

If Kofi's match is before this one then there won't even be match because Lesnar would have already destroyed everyone. Unfortunately I cannot be that luck and we will see all of New Day. Even so I still think New Day Sucks and the Lucha Dragons will prevail. 

Cesaro vs. Diego

I am only going to assume that this match was thrown together to have some international appeal. Don't overlook this match because both men are extremely talented. This could be the very thing Cesaro needs to get back some momentum as a singles competitor. 

It's going to be fun watching this unfold on the WWE Network. I think it's going to do mega numbers which will lead to other future WWE special events like this. There will be fireworks in American on this day but watch out Japan because there will be a WWE explosion when they throw down in Tokyo.

The Rose That Should Be Back in the Game!

Well, it's almost time for Major League Baseball's All-Star Game. This year it will be played at Great American Ballpark in Cincinatti Ohio. Unlike other years, when the spotlight is on the players as it should be. This year the spotlight has shifted to one Pete Rose. Rose will be allowed to take part in the events of the 2015 All-Star Game and will be applying for reinstatment into Major League Baseball. Rose was banned for life for offenses back in 1986 that came out in the Dowd Report released in 1989 that stated he bet on baseball.

Ok first off. Why should this be brought up now? Pete Rose has been trying to get back into baseball ever since he was banned for life. It's taking away from the players and their accomplishments leading into the All-Star Game and will take away from the attention they should be getting. Why not wait until after to discuss this issue? But since it's being brought up beforehand. Allow me to give you my opinion.

If you're going to allow Alex Rodriguez to swing a bat. Allow many of the other PED users. Ryan Braun, Jhonny Peralta, among others. To come back after using PED's, which will also directly impact the outcomes of games. Then why not allow Pete Rose to be reinstated? Pete firstly, never bet AGAINST his team. While playing or managing. He always played hard and tried to add on to his own hits record. Secondly Pete has been banned for 26 years from baseball. Which means no Hall of Fame. I say this. If you don't allow the all time hits king into the Hall Of Fame, for betting for his team to win. Then why do you have a Hall Of Fame? How many other HOF'ers did things to impact the games? Are we really stuck back in 1919 and the Black Sox scandal on betting? Have the times in baseball really not caught up past that?

Did Pete Rose deserve to be punished. Hell yes. Did he deserve to be suspended? Hell yes. But a lifetime ban? Hell no. Pete has paid his dues. He's been barred from almost anything to do with the game and needs special permission from the commissioner to attend anything. People talk about the integrity of the game. How about the Yankees moving in the right field fence to give Babe Ruth more home runs? How about the pitchers that continued to doctor baseballs and were even caught or admitted to doing it. Some of them are still in the Hall. Gaylord Perry anyone? Let's take a look at what started the stigma against betting on baseball shall we?

The Black Sox scandal of 1919. Perhaps the blackest eye in the game's history. A number of players including all-time great "Shoeless" Joe Jackson were given sums of money to throw the 1919 World Series by mobster Arnold Rothstein. The Chicago White Sox did end up losing the series 5 games to 3. However if you look at the facts of that series you'll see one glaring thing. Joe Jackson's performance. He set a series record with 12 hits. He hit the series only home run. He also hit .375 in the series. Now it's said he did a lot of this with the outcome already decided. I don't care. These boys, including Jackson. Were being paid large sum's of money for their time, to throw games. And if they didn't. They would be threatened, their families were threatened, their lives were threatened. The Game 8 starter, Lefty Williams, had his wife's life threatened before Game 8. These boys were faced with either throw the games, or they had a gun to their heads. What else would anyone do in that situation? Some of them may have happily taken the money or whatever. But there were threats and there was corruption. No doubt about it. Should they have been disciplined. Hell yes. But in the case of Jackson and a couple of others. They should not have been banned for life however. What does one do when faced with a loaded gun? All those so called "purists" would've thrown those games also. And no one out there could tell me they wouldn't. I firmly believe Joe Jackson should ALSO be in the Hall Of Fame.

Which brings me back to Pete Rose. While he didn't throw any games. He did owe money to a lot of shady characters. People that would knock on his door and break his legs if he didn't pay. This was Rose's own fault, admittedly. However once you're in that lifestyle, those boys don't want to let you out either. Who's to say if Rose was threatened and forced to keep gambling? Only he could tell you that. We just don't know everything about his situation I'm sure. That's only my speculation however.

In the end. I feel the lifetime ban should be lifted from Pete Rose. I feel he should be allowed in the Hall Of Fame. As should someone like Joe Jackson. Nothing they did off the field ever took from their on the field abilities and accomplishments. For those reasons alone they should be allowed in the game. And in the Hall Of Fame. Especially when they alone, still competed to the best of their abilities at all times.

The Three that Changed it All

As I've been sitting watching the WWE Network and watching the old WCW and WWE stuff it dawned on me that WCW tried so hard to load up on talent they paid no attention to the talent they had that were there before 1994. From 1993 through midway of 1995 WCW lured away Gene Okerlund, Bobby Heenan, Haku, Hacksaw Jim Duggan, Big Bossman, Earthquake, Nasty Boys, Brutus Beefcake, Macho Man Randy Savage, and Hulk Hogan. Even before those names arrived Rick Rude and Jake Roberts showed up as well. While all those names are legend and had great careers WCW paid no attention to three men they released. Within a six month period Dustin Rhodes, Jean Paul Levesque and Stunning Steve Austin all left WCW and headed to WWE which changed the course of pro wrestling history.

Most people would never out Goldust in the same sentence as Triple H and Stone Cold but Dustin Rhodes was a great talent in WCW. He held the United States and Tag Team Championship. He wrestled some of the all time greats. When Austin was the Ringmaster and Triple H was the blue blood Hunter Hearst Helmsley, WWE had created Goldust. Goldust ushered in an era of controversy, criticism and made a lot of people uncomfortable. It was a far cry from Dusty Rhodes kid. He brought the attitude era in before the era had that name. He was a multiple time tag team champion and Intercontinental Champion during his time in WWE. He will always be remembered for pushing the envelope and crossing the line in his early days as Goldust.

People can say what they want about Triple H and how he's a McMahon but talent speaks for itself. I think a lot of people knew he was a star as Jean-Paul in WCW. He had a good tag team with Lord Steven (William) Regal before his departure. I think those two could have done some great things together but Triple H did go on to do a lot of great things in WWE as an in ring competitor and now as the man behind NXT. He truly has a mind, heart and passion for the business. I can only imagine how the passion would have beneficial to WCW if they would have paid more attention to him as a competitor and a man who loves the business. 

Steve Austin was and always will be stunning even before he was Stone Cold. Austin held every title in WCW except the World Heavyweight Title. They must have thought something of him to give him  the other three titles. He out worked, and out wrestled a lot of others in WCW during his time. He was part of the Dangerous Alliance and Hollywood Blondes during his time in WCW. He went on to be the greatest WWE Superstar in the history of the company. He made so much money, drew so many people in and raised more hell then anyone has ever seen or ever will see again. He could have been a huge success in WCW if he would have been used more properly. 

There were a lot of people who switched sides, defected from one to the other and went for more money but these three were well known in WCW and became famous through WWE. The other two guys that I think of when I think of WCW dropping the ball are Mark Callaway who became The Undertaker and Cactus Jack who also went under the Dude Love and Mankind characters in WWE. However it was in the heart of 93 through 95 that these three went unnoticed, unappreciated and underused in WCW. Ultimately WCW loss everything and these three men became three of the biggest legends in pro wrestling history. That made that you'll never forget their names, their faces and their careers. 

Review, Recap, and Results of WWE Money in the Bank 2015

Tonight was the annual Money in the Bank pay-per-view. This was the 16th time that there has been a Money in the Bank Ladder match and I have to say the winner was quite shocking. There was a few surprises tonight that threw me off guard. Before I get to my thoughts here are the results of the show:

-Preshow: R-Truth defeated King Barrett
-Sheamus won the Money in the Bank Briefcase
-Nikki Bella defeated Paige to retain the WWE Divas Championship
-Big Show defeated Ryback by DQ, Ryback keeps Intercontinental Championship
-John Cena defeated Kevin Owens
-The Prime Time Players defeated The New Day to win the WWE Tag Team Championships
-Seth Rollins defeated Dean Ambrose to retain the WWE World Heavyweight Title in a Ladder Match

I love that they did some fitting tributes to the American Dream Dusty Rhodes. The Money in the Bank match was really good. I was really shocked that Sheamus won the briefcase and also really surprised they are doing a Roman Reigns-Bray Wyatt feud. Is it possible that the stars are aligning for the Wyatts and The Shield again? As much as I disagree with the decision for Kevin Owens to lose he still has so much momentum. His post match actions against Cena made him more of a heel then he already was. I absolutely love the WWE World Title Ladder Match. Ambrose and Rollins have such great chemistry together. I think they are a modern day Bret and Shawn only difference is that they don't have heat with each other. Rollins win and no cash-in. I am actually shocked with how brutal the ladder match was. I think they missed a little bit of an opportunity there.

The only thing I don't like about the Divas Title feud is that the women of NXT need to be coming up and taking the role of change on how women are viewed in WWE. The women in NXT are the ones making the real changes. I don't like how there was two matches that ended oddly and in controversy. I don't think they did the Intercontinental Championship match because the IC title matches are suppose to be classic technical contests. I like Ryback but he should not be the Intercontinental Champion. Neither should Big Show, Miz, Mark Henry or anyone else of that nature. That's why the United States Championship is there. Guys like Neville, Barrett, Ziggler, Rusev, and others should be competing for the Intercontinental Championship. It is what it is and Ryback is a feel good story right now.

The pay-per-view as a whole had some bright spots. Some definite feuds were set up for the next few weeks and into Summerslam. I would have to give the show a 7 out of 10 for some surprises and a lot of decent matches.

Remembering the "American Dream" Dusty Rhodes

Today the WWE and wrestling in general lost a true legend of the craft. Born October 12th of 1945 in Austin Texas and named Vigil Riley Runnels. Dusty Rhodes is one of the most charismatic superstars to have ever walked the face of the Earth. Billed the son of a plumber, Dusty was a pioneer of what a promo should be. 

He started off in the AWA as a villain and soon he grew in popularity and the boos turned to cheers. The crowd fed off of his charisma and the blue collar persona that he portrayed. Soon Dusty became a main event attraction in any of the regional promotions that he visited. With a look that wasn't common for a superstar and the agility and stamina of a wrestler that is 50 pounds lighter. Dusty put on main event matches with some of the all time greats around the country. Names like Ric Flair, Eddie and Mike Graham, and even had two title matches for the WWWF championship against Superstar Billy Graham. He was regularly going 60 minutes on a nightly basis with any and all challengers.

His schedule remained blue collar and hard working through the mid 80's. Dusty cut promos that kept the crowd on edge and soon started getting world championship opportunities. He soon began a legendary rivalry with Ric Flair that spanned the better part of the 80's and saw Dusty use his Bionic Elbow to put away many opponents and capture the NWA World Heavyweight Championship on two occasions. His "Hard Times" promo was well ahead of it's time and saw Dusty use his slow delivery on his promos and his intensity to garner the reputation of being one of the best mic workers in the business.

During the late 80's Dusty found himself in a bigger backstage role as well as being in front of the camera. As a booker he actually won Wrestling Observer Newsletter's Booker of the Year in 1986. He was credited as Virgil Runnels so his persona as Dusty Rhodes was protected.

The 1990's was a different time for Dusty. In what almost seemed like a joke the WWF brought him in. He was still under the guise of a blue collar worker. But with polka dots. Still with Dusty's charisma, and his hard work ethic this gimmick soon got over with fans much more than Vince McMahon ever thought it would. He had a feud with Macho "King" Randy Savage with Sensational Sherry with his own valet Sapphire getting involved in the feud and helping to propel Dusty to a WWE darling. Soon he dropped the polka dots and feuded with the Million Dollar Man which saw him bring his own son Dustin into the fray. Soon after this feud Dusty left the WWE in 1991.

He went back to World Championship Wrestling as a booker and part time wrestler, even teaming with his son . He ended up managing various stars and even had a run in the NWO as he accompanied Hall and Nash to the ring. This saw Dusty take on the role of a heel for the first time in nearly 20 years. This run wasn't very memorable however and soon Dusty left WCW for a brief run in ECW, then returned once more to WCW towards the end of WCW's run and feuded with Ric Flair.

After WCW's demise Dusty worked in various independent territories and also worked in TNA as their head booker and head writer. While still making random appearances in the ring. He left TNA in 2005 and wrestled in many independent promotions until returning to the WWE in 2005.

Dusty returned and appeared on TV many various times from 2005-2015. Most notably working with his sons Cody and Dustin and being in their corner when they beat the Shield for their jobs back in 2013. Dusty last appeared on Monday Night RAW in February of 2015 trying to keep the Rhodes brothers together.

Although Dusty tragically passed away June 11th 2015 of kidney failure. He was a mentor to many, a father to his own and a true legend of wrestling. He will be missed by many who saw him and lived their childhoods partially through him. He truly did embody the American Dream. His legacy will live on. Through his memories, through his life and through his family. He would want it that way.

We at Hollywood's World of Sports send our deepest sympathies to Dusty Rhodes family, friends, and WWE Universe. He embodied the American Dream and had one of the most legendary careers anyone could ask for. My thoughts and prayers are with the Rhodes family especially to Cody and Dustin who now will grace the squared circle for the first time without their father being there for them. May God Bless you and comfort you both anytime you step into the ring and think of him.

Should Tiger Woods Retire?

I've always been a big admirer of Tiger Woods and his abilities. He's had a legendary career and will go down as the greatest golfer of his generation. On June 6th 2015 he shot his worst round of his career. A round of 85 is not something that he's not going to want to remember.  Tiger Woods has won 79 tournaments with 14 being Major Championships. He has not won a Major Championship in seven years when he had an incredible playoff with Rocco Mediate. 

We all know about Tiger's personal problems with gambling, affairs, and a divorce that cost him a lot of money and a lot of negative perception from the media and fans of the PGA. I truly believe that Tiger has never fully recovered from the mess he got himself in late 2009. When you start not making cuts on a regular basis due to poor performance and injuries then it's time to start questioning how much you have left in the tank and is it really worth embarrassing yourself anymore?

As I said before Tiger Woods will go down as one of the greatest golfers of all time. His accomplishments and his impact on the sport are going to stand the test of time. He has been the face of the PGA for years but is it time for a new face? Is it time for Tiger to take a step back? And how much more does he really have to prove? Tiger Woods is like the Hulk Hogan of golf. Not everyone may follow the sport but they know exactly who he is. 

After this weekends dreaded performance it's time for Tiger to look in the mirror, reconsider his career or make some extreme changes to what he's doing. At 39 years old he still has a lot left in the tank but if his drive, passion and hunger are gone then he should consider retiring. He's just not the same Tiger that he once was. Hopefully we will never have to witness another round of 85 again. It will truly be a sad day if we do. 

Why Brady's suspension should be overturned

Nobody can prove the balls were actually out of the NFL's allowable range of 12.5psi - 13.5psi because no data was recorded. Nothing was documented. The Wells report relied entirely on the memory of one official who according to the report was "pretty sure" of the numbers. The official admitted that he couldn't be positive about the pressure because two different gauges were used that gave different readings by as much as .7psi. Therefore, the same ball may measure 12.5psi (allowed) on one gauge and only 11.8psi (out of range) on another gauge. Shame on the NFL for having such a poor protocol in place. Gauges used to measure pressure should have been calibrated and measurements should have been recorded.


There is no proof Brady instructed Patriots staff to deflate balls to below 12.5psi after they were checked by the officials. The text messages between Brady and the two Patriot staffers only prove that Brady preferred a softer ball and asked them to deflate the balls...here's the thing...THATS NOT AGAINST THE RULES...Brady has every right to request air be let out of the balls as long as the balls remain in range (12.5psi to 13.5psi) and its done prior to the officials checking the balls. Here's what I mean...if Brady shows up to the stadium and picks up a game ball and thinks its too hard, he can request air be let out, as long as the ball remains in range. Brady prefers game balls to be closer to 12.5psi than 13.5psi. He instructed Patriots staff to make sure that happened. The texts, by themselves, don't prove Brady did anything wrong. The NFL needs to prove not only that Brady requested the balls be deflated, but that he asked them to be deflated BELOW 12.5psi, or that he asked for it to be done AFTER the balls were checked the the officials.

Cam Newton Paid $103.8M for His Brand, Contract a Bad Deal for Panthers Fans.

Over the past four years Cam Newton has led the Carolina Panthers to just one winning season. They made the playoffs, but lost in the first round. The only playoff win of his career was a bit of a fluke in that the team had no business being in the playoffs (7-8-1 regular season).

Cam Newton is a great athlete, but is he a $20M/year quarterback? He’s not a skilled passer (passing yards have decreased every year and his 2014 rating was the lowest of his career), his rushing stats are trending downward year-by-year, and most importantly, he hasn’t proven he can win consistently.

So is he worth all that money? Has he earned it? Yes. Every. Single. Penny. While not an elite NFL quarterback, he’s a good one. More importantly, he’s exciting to watch and people want to see him play. He sells a lot of tickets, jerseys, sports drinks, advertising, etc. The $103.8M deal will be profitable for both Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers.

Was it a good deal for the fans? Probably not. They’ll enjoy watching him play in a Panthers Jersey for the next five years, but they won’t get what fans really want…a Super Bowl ring. Cam Newton may have a few winning seasons left under his belt, maybe even a playoff win or two, but he’ll never lead the Panthers to a Super Bowl victory.

So was it a good deal? Yes. It was a great deal. You just have to keep in mind that it was a business deal…not a football deal.

Review, Recap, Results of WWE Elimination Chamber 2015

Tonight was the return of the Elimination Chamber and what a return it was. I love the Chamber matches and pay-per-view and tonight they proved why they are so phenomenal. Before I begin here the results:

-Pre-Show- Stardust vs. Zack Ryder
-Elimination Chamber Tag Team Title Match- The New Day defeated Cesaro/Kid, Los Matadores, Lucha Dragons, The Ascension, and Prime Time Players to retain the tag titles
-Triple Threat Divas Title Match- Nikki Bella defeated Naomi and Paige to retain the Divas Title
-Kevin Owens defeated John Cena
-Neville defeated Bo Dallas
-Elimination Chamber Match for the Vacate WWE Intercontinental Championship- Ryback defeated Mark Henry, Dolph Ziggler, Sheamus, King Barrett, and R-Truth

I absolutely loved the tag team Elimination Chamber match but you have five legitimate tag teams and WWE dropped the ball on giving the tag team division more rivalries over those titles. I know they are trying to go with the heel heat with The New Day and build it up to where when they get beat it's going to be huge. I think tonight would have been great to have the Dragons or Players win the titles. Hopefully this match sparked the tag team scene into the spotlight again,

I love how the Divas are getting more time and being more aggressive. I honestly thought Naomi was going to be Divas Champion but they have obviously have bigger plans for the Divas Championship. I am so happy that Kevin Owens won cleanly. They just build their next mega star with that victory. I am absolutely static for the future of WWE. Finally the WWE did something smart by putting over a great young superstar like Kevin Owens. I was really shocked that Mark Henry returned to replace Rusev in the Elimination Chamber match for the Intercontinental Championship. I was also really shocked that new Intercontinental Champion is Ryback, Thought for sure Ziggler, Barrett or Sheamus would walk away with the title.

The Main Event for the WWE Title was a good solid wrestling match. Both Rollins and Ambrose are awesome performers. I absolutely loved the swerve at the end of the match. It built up for more of a story. Elimination Chamber was a great show. It makes wish for more WWE Network exclusives. In two weeks, Money in the Bank is taking place and the future of the WWE. Until then take in what you saw at Elimination Chamber!

The Meta Powers Could be Mega in WWE if Done Right

When I think of Damien Sandow and Curtis Axel I think of two of the most technically sound and underrated performers on the WWE roster. Sandow had a great run as the Intellectual Savior of the Masses but when he failed his Money in the Bank Briefcase cash in a couple of years ago it really derailed any momentum he had. He then began imitating people and eventually became the lackey for The Miz. As for Curtis Axel, he was Michael McGuillicutty for the longest time. I always thought he should have been Joe Hennig and used his fathers name to build his career. They eventually broke the McGuillicutty name and he become Curtis Axel, a Paul Heyman guy. His momentum with Heyman at first was very strong but eventually was killed by being CM Punk's punching bag after Punk's match with Lesnar at Summerslam 2013.

I truly believe when Curtis Axel start Axelmania it wouldn't have caught on and taken off. the way it has. It made sense once Damien Sandow broke away from The Miz to put him with Axel and play off two of the biggest WWE Legends in the history of the company. Some people think it's an insult and disrespectful but I truly believe it's keeping the legacies of both men alive and doing it in a comedic way. I think it's great that before Wrestlemania 31, Hulk Hogan got involved with Curtis Axel and had some fun with the character Axel was trying to pull off. It is no secret that Hulk Hogan had a lot of respect for Curt Hennig and probably wants to help Joe Hennig out anyway he can.

I believe if this story and these characters are done right I could see it going for quite awhile and letting this build both men's careers. I am not sure where Damien Sandow's career could go from here but Curtis Axel should eventually be in a singlet and doing the perfect plex to put his opponents away. I believe if Charlotte can be like her father, if Nattie and Tyson can be like Bret, then their is no reason why Curtis Axel can't be like his father. Right now this could be the perfect thing to get Sandow and Axel where they need to go. Only time will tell to see if The Meta Powers will become a mega thing in the WWE.

Samoa Joe Arrives at WWE NXT Takeover: Unstoppable

How ironic is it, that on the day Destination America is rumored to be cancelling TNA Impact Wrestling that one of TNA'S biggest superstars in history finally makes his WWE debut. At the conclusion of the Kevin Owens-Sami Zayn match, Samoa Joe came out rescue Zayn from any further beating. The arrival of Samoa Joe to WWE has been a long time coming. I believe WWE is really starting to head into a way different direction. They are signing on big guys who have more then five moves and can work circles in the ring. Samoa Joe along with Kevin Owens are two big men who have so much agility it's ridiculous. 

For those who don't know of Samoa Joe, he is a former ROH Pure Champion, ROH Heavyweight Champion, and held every title and honor you could think of in TNA Impact Wrestling. I considered him the face of Ring of Honor and TNA during his time at both places. He's been wrestling since 1999 and hasn't stopped since. I look at the Samoa Joe signing as a sign of what WWE did in the 80's. WWE took out all the territories and it seems that NXT is grabbing the absolute best of what is outside of WWE now. 

So you now have Zayn, Balor, Itami, Owens and Joe who dominated the indy scene for so long all under one roof. Guys like Punk, and Bryan really paved the way for a lot of this to happen. You can also thank Triple H, William Regal and the rest of the NXT coaches, trainers and scouts. They all know what the fans want. They are in tune with what today's wrestling fans would like to see. Signing Joe has definitely put NXT over the top as an elite and superior pro wrestling brand. I look forward to seeing what Samoa Joe does in the WWE Universe. I suggest you start watching NXT otherwise Joe is gonna kill you!

Review of Dave and Busters Grand Rapids, MI

When you travel to Grand Rapids, MI you have the medical mile, Van Andel Arena, Devos Hall and many lakes and beaches. Now adults in the city have even more entertainment now that the new Dave and Busters has opened. I decided to travel a few blocks from home to check out this fun filled environment and I was not disappointed. For an arcade freak and sports fan like myself this place was amazing on every level. 

From the beginning, there were people at the door greeting me and answering any questions I had. While I was in line for my Power Card came up and introduce themselves to make and shook my hand. Once I got my Power Card I started playing games like Monopoly, Spin the Wheel, Skeeball and Milk Jug Toss. I was also given a few free games by the employees asking me to tryout some of what they had. The points system is very rewarding and more attractive then Chuck E Cheese or West Michigan's Craig's Cruisers. I only spent 6 dollars and won 262 points which is unheard of in arcade setting such as this. My experience in the building didn't end there.

I went and sat at their beautiful looking bar that had quite a few big screens with sports on each of them. The bartenders were as friendly as the greeters at the doors. They introduced themselves, gave me a handshake and took the time to get to know me. I ordered a side of Mozzarella Sticks because that's my favorite appetizer and they were delicious. My experience was excellent on both ends of the spectrum. This is a great addition to the Grand Rapids community and better then going to Gun Lake Casino. The thing I love about places like Dave and Busters is when you spend the money you get something back. The prizes and rewards are unbelievable. They aren't out of reach at all and you don't have to spend thousands of dollars to get something decent.

I would definitely recommend going to this wonderful place. I am super excited this place now exists in my hometown. As for Craig's Cruisers and Chuck E Chesse, my advice is to step up your game because Dave and Busters is a top notch, classy, and fun atmosphere. This place is going to be the place to be for fun, excitement and a good time. Check out Dave and Busters! Eat, Play and Have Fun!

Results, Review, Recap of WWE Payback 2015

Tonight was the annual WWE Payback pay-per-view and there was indeed some payback involved. There was some great matches and the crowd was pretty hot tonight was well. Before I begin with my thoughts here are the results:

-Pre-Show- RTruth defeated Stardust
-Pre-Show- The Ascension defeated Damien Sandow/Curtis Axel
-Sheamus defeated Dolph Ziggler
-The New Day defeated Cesaro/Tyson Kidd in a 2 out of 3 Falls Match to retain the WWE Tag Team Championship
-Bray Wyatt defeated Ryback
-John Cena defeated Rusev in an I Quit Match to retain the WWE United States Champion
-Tamina/Naomi defeated The Bella Twins.
-Neville defeated King Barrett by Count Out.
-Seth Rollins defeated Randy Orton, Dean Ambrose, and Roman Reigns in a Fatal Four Way to retain the WWE World Heavyweight Championship

Some of the things I didn't like is that the parody of Sandow and Axel should be winning matches especially if they are mimicking two of the biggest legends in the history of the WWE. I also hope Cesaro and Tyson Kidd win the Tag Titles because their one time 63 day reign is not good enough for how great of a team they are. I really hate how Tamina keeps playing the sidekick for everyone. She's good enough to be on her own and deserves to a shot to be on her own.

There really wasn't a bad match on the card. I really think the Cena-Rusev match was the best of their trilogy this year. The tag title match was as good as advertised. The tag team division is beginning to take shape again with atleast 10 teams in the division at the moment. The Main Event Fatal Four Way Championship was great. There were a lot of dynamics with Kane, teasing The Shield and Orton being always being Orton. That was one of the best fatal four ways I have seen in quite sometime. Rollins walked away still champ but in the end everyone got their highlights.

It was a decent pay-per-view but I believe that WWE is having to many pay-per-views too close together. It doesn't give much time to build up a great storyline and or major interest  in a card. I know WWE is trying to plug the network as much as they can buy having to many pay-per-views is going to kill any interest fans might have. In two weeks time we will see the Elimination Chamber show, and two weeks after that it will be Money in the Bank. Hopefully WWE can do their best to build good stories and matches for the next four weeks. As for tonight, I will give it 6.5 out of 10. Great matches but nothing epic or unpredictable. Check back in two weeks for my thoughts on the Elimination Chamber. Until then I hope you enjoyed Payback.
