The Fabulous Freebirds to be Inducted Into the 2016 WWE Hall of Fame

In the heart of the 80's no one in the sports word, celebrity world or the squared circle embodied, embraced and donned the Stars and Bars more then The Fabulous Freebirds. They formed in 1979 and ran all the way until 1994. When I think of the Freebirds as a whole I think of their fierce rivalry with Von Erich's in World Class Championship Wrestling.  They fought so hard against each other it really made you get on the side of the Von Erich Family and absolutely hate the Freebirds. They also had feuds with The Road Warriors, The Midnight Express, The Rock N Roll Express The Fantastics, and Devastation Inc. All of the Freebirds were talented and it was that talent that brought them 27 championships in singles and as a tag team between the different variations of the faction. 

When I think of the long term legacy of the Freebirds I think of Michael Hayes who should be credit so much for the success of the group and the different ideas he's brought to the pro wrestling business. During his time in the WWE he was known as Dok Hendrix, managed the Hardy Boyz  in their humble beginnings and eventually become an agent for the company. The Freebirds are definitely deserving of this honor and it has been a long time coming. Sadly, Hayes and Garvin are the only two remaining Freedbirds left. Terry Gordy passed away in 2001 and Buddy Roberts passed away in 2012. 

I think it's fitting that The Freebirds are being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in Dallas, Texas. They built their legacy in Texas. Say what you will about Southern Pride, Confederate Flag, and everything that goes a long with it. They brought in a whole new set of fans because of their personalities. They should be remembered as pioneers and innovators. Congratulations to Terry Gordy, Buddy Roberts, Jimmy Garvin and Michael Hayes on being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2016. 

Road to WWE Wrestlemania 32: Week 5

This week on the Road to Wrestlemania the road took a crazy turn and the events of this week are going to have huge implications for Wrestlemania and the future of WWE, Shane McMahon disrupted a ceremony Vince was having for Stephanie. He said he wanted to full control of Monday Night Raw. The stipulation is that Shane must defeat The Undertaker inside Hell in a Cell at Wrestlemania.  A lot of speculation is going on whether or not Shane is here to stay, if their is going to be a brand extension and what really is the future of the WWE? I think there is a lot more to the Shane McMahon situation then what's being presented on TV. I look forward to see how it all plays out. Here are the results from this weeks Road to Wrestlemania:

One thing I noticed is that the end of Raw really reminded of an Attitude Era Raw with Triple H's beat down of Roman Reigns. There is a lot of talk about Raw getting edgier until Wrestlemania season is over. I personally would love to see an edgier Monday Night Raw every week. One of the other stories that actually has my intrigued is Ryback. He left his partners high and dry and said he wanted be on his own. I will be curious to see what happens with Ryback and how this turn of events will effect his road to Wrestlemania. There are still a lot of questions heading into Wrestlemania but one thing is for sure and that is we have three really great matches that have been made so far. The Godfather to be Inducted into the 2016 WWE Hall of Fame

When I was a small child there wasn't many wrestling characters that scared me but the ones that did were The Undertaker and Papa Shango. Papa Shango arrived in WWE in 1992 and instantly feueded with the Ultimate Warrior and The Undertaker and practiced his voodoo magic by cursing his opponents in the ring. Unfortunately the gimmick was considered a joke and not taken seriously enough to have a good run with it so in 1993 Charles Wright left the WWE and wrestled down in USWA.

In 1994, Wright returned to WWE under the name Kama and was a shoot fighter. His run as "The Supreme Fighting Machine" was quiet and unforgettable even if he did have some run-ins with The Undertaker. It was in 1997 when Wright got his break and became apart of the Nation of Domination as Kama Mustafa. From 1997 to 1999, he transitioned from being Kama Mustafa into The Godfather. He became one of the most beloved characters in the Attitude Era. He would be accompanied to the by his ladies and even sometimes use his ladies to get out of matches. He became WWE Intercontinental Champion and when he became The Goodfather as part of Right to Censor he won the Tag Team Championship. The Godfather wrestled full time until 2002 when he retired and went back to Las Vegas to run a Gentlemen's Club

He's often made appearances in the WWE since his retirement and every time he gets a great reaction from the crowd. His character is one of many reasons the Attitude Era was so much fun to watch. Congratulations to Charles Wright aka The Godfather, Papa Shango, Kama for being the newest member of the 2016 WWE Hall of Fame.

Review, Results, Recap of WWE Fastlane 2016

Tonight was a huge fork in the road on the way to Dallas, Texas for Wrestlemania 32. A lot of things became more clearer on what Wrestlemania will look like. Before I begin with my thoughts here are the results of Fastlane:

It was a solid show and the matches were solid as well. I think the show set up some obvious matches for Wrestlemania. My favorite matches of the night were the United States Championship Match, Intercontinental Championship Match, and AJ Styles vs. Chris Jericho. I am really disappointed there wasn't more surprises considering this is the last big show before Wrestlemania. I feel they missed an opportunity on the Cutting Edge Peep Show to introduce a new tag team while The New Day. They could have introduced Enzo and Cass, The Vaudevillians or another NXT tag team. They need some surprises going into Wrestlemania. I thought we'd have a lot more answers of what Wrestlemania would look like but not many were answered.

One question that was answered is who would be facing Triple H at Wrestlemania The Main Event was everything I thought it was going to be. It was brutal, hard hitting and had three legitimate lunatics in their own right. The physicality of this match was off the charts. All three competitors brought out everything they had. At the end of the night we now know the Wrestlemania 32 Main Event will be Triple H vs, Roman Reigns for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. As for Dean Ambrose and Brock Lesnar, their roads remain unclear.

I really hope that the next six weeks worth of television has some surprises and epic moments because tonight did not. The matches were good is a pay-per-view if the matches are the only thing going on then the fans will lose interest really quick. If I have to give this show a rating I would give it 6 out of 10. because the matches weren't bad but the buildup for Wrestlemania was just flat out horrible. Hopefully this does not carry over into Wrestlemania. WWE has a chance to redeem themselves on March 12 when they have The March to Wrestlemania on the WWE Network. This will be the one last big opportunity to get some momentum. Until then lets get out of the Fastlane in Cleveland and brace yourselves for the road to Dallas.

Road to WWE Wrestlemania 32: Week 4 (FastLane Preview)

This week on the Road to Wrestlemania the preparations for FastLane were complete. It was a wild and crazy ride with the focus being on the huge Triple Threat Match between Brock Lesnar, Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns. Ambrose had a rough week which makes me wonder how he will be at WWE FastLane. Before I begin with more thoughts for the week here are the results for the week in WWE:

My predictions for the night are Kalisto, Kevin Owens, Lynch/Banks, The Wyatt Family, Charlotte, Styles and Ambrose. I also think an NXT Tag Team will appear to confront The New Day on Edge and Christan's show, I could see it being Enzo Amore and Colin Cassidy. Both have crazy personalities and would have a good feud with The New Day. It's going to be FastLane and fast track to Wrestlemania so keep coming back to get more on the Road to Wrestlemania. 

Ronda Rousey's Suicide Comments: For Real or For Show?

Before I begin, I want to make it very clear that I take the issues of depression, post traumatic stress, and suicide very seriously. I have seen so many cases of it in my life and have had several people I know effected by it. I am in no way, shape or form trying to make light of these issues. These issues are very serious and they should be handled with a great deal of sensitivity. 

When I watched Ronda Rousey's interview on Ellen Degeneres she spoke very passionately about her career and her life. Ellen brought up her loss to Holly Holm and Ronda began to get emotional and said she thought no one cared about her now that she lost and that she was nothing without her UFC title. She thought if she wasn't here that no one would miss her. I just find it hard that this strong, independent, outspoken, and powerful woman would let one loss bring her down to that degree. I have known people that have been depressed and suicidal and you just don't have those thoughts for one minute and then they are gone. I know some people that it takes a long time and a lot of help to get over thoughts like these. After her brief moment of crying she then got back into Ronda mode and pretty much said she didn't care about who Holm fought and then she wanted to be the one to defeat Holm. This did not sound like a woman that was suicidal or depressed. I have no doubt she was depressed for awhile after her devastating to Holm but if she was as bad off as most people are with depression then she would have sought professional help and we would have heard about it. 

I've said many times that the UFC uses WWE's formula to make a great fight out of a great story. Would it surprise me if the UFC told Ronda Rousey to say some of these things in her interviews? Absolutely not. Ronda went from being a great upstart, to a respected fighter and eventually someone a lot of people didn't like because of her attitude and how she carried herself. It would not surprise me if the UFC is trying to gain sympathy for her and set up for a great comeback fight against Holm that would make a lot of money. I am just having a hard time buying her comments because there have been great athletes who have lost in a major way before and they have never made these kind of comments. Then again there is a first for everything. 

If Rousey's emotions and comments were absolutely 100 percent real then I will be the first to apologize. I do think she's a positive role-model for young woman and an inspiration for female athletes all over the world. She was a good champion, she's been in movies and she's all over the media. I hope she comes back better then ever and continues to be a pioneer for female athletes. I never want to say that someones feelings and emotions are fake and a lie but the UFC is considered sports entertainment and their fighters are becoming more like characters now. How do you seperate the fighters personality from the real life personality? I do feel they are two totally different things. However as I said before if I am wrong about this then I would be the first to apologize for thinking differently. You be the judge. Watch the Ellen interview and see for yourself.

Road to WWE Wrestlemania 32: Week 3

This week on the Road to Wrestlemania featured craziness by Ambrose and a classic matches from a few different competitors. Before I begin with all of that I want to address some rumors and ideas that have been talked about. Vince McMahon is really high on Braun Strowman and originally planned for him to face off against The Undertaker at Wrestlemania. The Undertaker has reportedly turned this down and an opponent for the Deadman is unknown at this time. I must say I agree with The Undertaker because if this is last match it needs to be someone who can perform and be a leader in the ring like The Undertaker always was. Another thing I read recently is an idea Scott Hall had for the Wrestlemania Main Event. He pitched the idea of Roman Reigns with The Rock in his corner against Triple H with Shawn Michaels in his corner. The special guest referee should be Daniel Bryan. I like Scott Hall's thinking and really feel he should be on the creative team. He'd do a much better job then most of the guys now. Those are the two big pieces of news I've read recently. With that being said here is what happen this week on the Road to Wrestlemania

The match of the week by far was Jericho-Styles two. The segment of the week is a tie. Dean Ambrose calling out Brock Lesnar on Raw was awesome. The other segment was listening to the Dudley Boyz turn heel again and say they are done with their nostalgic act. I look forward to seeing how the Dudley Boys impact the tag ream division heading into Wrestlemania. There were a lot of emotions this week that included Daniel Bryan retiring and Titus O'Neil being suspend. Both are real life stories right now that are having impacts in their own way. Long term it's going to be hard to find another Daniel Bryan. He had a certain star power that a lot of guys could only dream of having. As for O'Neil he was starting to get a singles push until he joked around the Mr. McMahon on Monday. I will be curious to see the outcome of this situation because there is a lot of backlash. 

With everything going on there is still a pay-per-view that's coming up. Fast Lane is next week and so far here are the matches on show:

As you can see things for Wrestlemania are starting to shape up. I expect three more matches to be made for Fast Lane in order to set up some matches and stories for Wrestlemania. Keep checking back for more on the Road to Wrestlemania. 

Titus O'Neil's Suspension Proves Vince McMahon Should Step Down in WWE

On the February 8 edition of Monday Night Raw where Daniel Bryan retired a very minor incident occurred after Daniel Bryan went to the back. Vince McMahon was walking to the back and Titus O'Neil joking grabbed Vince trying to play with him a little bit. At the time of the event I didn't think to much of it. It was reported by multiple sources that Titus O'Neil was notified at Tuesday Night's Smackdown tapings that he was suspend 90 days for the minor incident. I am not carry on and act like Titus is my favorite wrestling but I do respect what he does and how hard he works. I am just appalled and shocked that he was suspended for 90 days.

I have always respected Vince McMahon for how great WWE use to be. It seems over the last few years he's lost touch and isn't the genius he once was. Suspending Titus proves one of two things to me. The first being that Vince doesn't treat all of his employees equally or he really is racist like so many people have thought he is all of these years. If this would have been one of his puppets John Cena or Roman Reigns the wrestling world wouldn't even be discussing this. The WWE has been accused of racism before and it was actually proven awhile ago when Alberto Del Rio left the company due a WWE employee made racial remarks to him. Del Rio would eventually come back and be treated fairly. 

For me this is the last straw. Vince McMahon no longer knows what talent is and no longer knows how to manage it. I think deep down inside he's bitter and angry that his son in law has a better product then he does. Why do you think Vince undermines everyone that comes up from NXT? He knows if they are successful that Triple H will get all the credit, not him. Triple H knows talent, knows how to manage talent and gives everyone an equal chance to succeed. I just think it's so hypocritical by WWE to treat Titus this way because all they ever do is promote how great of a role model, father and community leader he is. I hope the WWE Board of Directors reverses the decision otherwise they are going to make themselves look really stupid with this decision. 

There is already a lot of backlash from past stars, and fans alike. I am sure the current roster isn't happy but they are afraid to speak out about it and they are probably even more afraid to interact with Vince more now then ever. I almost feel like there is more to the story that we ate not getting. I really feel an explanation is owed to all. I don't think Vince McMahon rationally thought about this decision because there are huge losses for Titus because of it. Titus will now miss a Wrestlemania payday and be out a lot of money due to missing that pay day. Vince McMahon also must be having memory loss at his old age. Does he not realize that it's Black History Month and he just crapped all over one of the more popular African American stars that he has in the company? I really want to hear the whole story and the whole explanation. As fans who invest our time and money into the WWE product we deserve to know why this led to a suspension that wasn't necessary. Only time will tell if the real story comes out.

Thoughts on Bryan Danielson(Daniel Bryan) Retiring

Not a lot of things that I read or see in pro wrestling make me tear up and come close to crying. Watching Bryan Danielson retire was very heartbreaking to me because I feel it's not the way he wanted to go out. It is so similar to the way Edge had to retire. I remember watching the American Dragon back in his Ring of Honor days, I was immediately a fan of his because he was trained by one of my all time favorites in Shawn Michaels. He made his debut in December of 1999 and for the next 15 years he gave us so many great moments. 

In Ring of Honor, he was an ROH Pure Champion and ROH World Champion. He feuded with James Gibson, Samoa Joe, Chris Hero, Nigel McGuiness, Kenta, Adam Pearce, Tyler Black and many others. One of my favorite things he did on the independent scene was team with Cesaro and Dave Taylor that were known as Team Uppercut. This man had such an unique offense and wrestling style which made him special. He learned from Shawn Michaels, Masato Tanaka and William Regal. Being trained by those men showed in his work and in his class. 

After eight years in Ring of Honor he then headed to WWE. A lot of people did not expect much of him when he first got there but in the 5 years he was there he won all the major titles, Money in the Bank and main evented Wrestlemania 30 in New Orleans. My favorite Daniel Bryan moments are his classic matches with CM Punk, his storyline with AJ Lee and his run with Kane as Team Hell No. Te stuff he did with Kane in 2012 through 2013 was the most entertaining and funniest stuff that WWE had done in that time-frame. It showed that he had personality and wasn't just a pro wrestler. He showed that charismatic side of him that everyone was wanting to see. His career in WWE was just equally as impressive as his career in Ring of Honor. In each promotion he had a different impact. 

Watching Bryan's retirement retirement speech made me realize that athletes and celebrities can learn something from him. He is one of the most humbled, gracious and upstanding people I've ever heard speak. He doesn't expect the spotlight, doesn't want things handed to him and is grateful the support he's been given. If I can leave you with one thing that I will remember most about Bryan it will be that he made people care. His selflessness made people care about the WWE, about the charity work they do and how great the people in WWE are. Thank you to the "American Dragon" Bryan Danielson on a wonderful and glorious career. Your presence in and out of the ring will never be forgotten. YES! YES! YES!

Dabbin' and Dancin': The Misunderstood Cam Newton

When it comes to football there is no greater stage then the NFL's Super Bowl game. How you perform in the Super Bowl lasts a lifetime and is remembered by people forever. This was the Golden Anniversary of football's biggest game. It was Super Bowl 50 between the Denver Broncos and the Carolina Panthers. This game was one of the best defensive battles in the history of the Super Bowl. Cam Newton had an incredible 2015 season. His stats this season spoke for themselves. The Broncos won a hard fought battle 24-10. Unfortunately in some people's eyes they won't remember Cam for his incredible season. They are going to remember what happen once they left the field.

Cam Newton's post game press conference was brief, short and to the point. A lot of people are upset with him for walking off during his interview. A lot of people have said things on social media about poor sportsmanship, him being classless, and him being a crybaby. I believe he showed great class in shaking hands with Peyton Manning after the game. As far as his attitude during the interview went I think he could have handled better. However I had to remind myself that the man is human and well have human emotions. It was the biggest game of this lifetime and he was disappointed with his performance. I think he was humbled and I think this will make him grow as a person and player. Sometimes it takes a loss and criticism to grow as an individual. This does not however make someone a bad person.

What I've taken issue is that people thinking Cam Newton is a bad person. Many say he is cocky, classless and arrogant. So because someone has love, passion and is having fun doing what they love that makes them arrogant? So if you love you job, have passion for your job and have fun doing your job does that make you arrogant? Did anyone ever stop and think about what happen to him last year. Towards the end of the 2014 season he was in a pretty bad automobile accident that he fortunately walked away from. Did anyone stop and think that his celebrations are away of being grateful that he was able walk away from the crash and continue doing what he loves? He loves the game of football and he makes it exciting. I see nothing wrong with him celebrating in the game he loves and is passionate about. 

Another part of his celebrations is every time he scored this season he gave a kid in the stands a game ball. I've heard outlandish comments on social media that he gives back to the youth because he stole a laptop when he was a Florida Gator and his father tried getting money from Colleges so Cam would play for them. He admitted that he was wrong for doing what he did at Florida and that he learned from. As far as taking money, it's not Cam's fault that his dad went into business for himself and damn near ruined his career for it. It's also been said he does the charity work for good pubic relations and that he's forced to. Hearing that statement is the most absolute outlandish thing I've read. You don't do charity because you're forced to. You give to charity because you want to give back and make a difference. Look how many kids he touched through those game balls and giving back this season. He's done a lot of great things for his community and I have no doubt he will continue to do more great things for years to come.

I could go on and on about Newton's stats, records and accomplishments but those speak for themselves. I think Cam is a great athlete, a great football player and a great human being. I think he will learn and grow from the experience at Super Bowl 50. This is not the last we have seen of Cam Newton in the Super Bowl. He is only 26 and has a long way to go before his career is said and done. Congratulations to Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers for a great season. It will be a season that true football fans won't forget. 

Road to WWE Wrestlemania 32: Week 2

This week on the Road to Wrestlemania Brock Lesnar made his intentions perfectly clear and that is pay back Bray Wyatt for the Royal Rumble and win the triple threat match at Fast Lane. Lesnar also had a confrontation with Dean Ambrose at the beginning of Raw which led to Ambrose getting the F'5 at the end of Raw. Here are the results of this weeks Road to Wrestlemania:

Roman Reigns/Dean Ambrose defeated Rusev/Alberto Del Rio

I know Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns are the top two guys in Vince McMahon's eyes but would it be too much to ask to see someone new in the main event on Raw and Smackdown? I don't like the fact that every show is based around these two. If you want to have a successful Wrestlemania they need to get more people involved. Why not put Owens, Ziggler, Styles, Jericho and others in the spotlight. Another match was made for Fast Lane this past week and it will be Kalisto taking on Alberto Del Rio for the United States Championship. Another issue I have is why they aren't pushing Kevin Owens more? The guy could have come incredible feuds with Styles, Jericho or reignite his feud with Sami Zayn. There are so many guys that could be pushed that aren't being pushed and this would be the time of the year to start showcasing what you really have.

The Road to Wrestlemania is full of possibilities and I hope in the coming weeks those possibilities are explored. Even with an injury plagued roster they still have an opportunity to do some great things with the roster if they put their minds to it. Keep checking back for more on the Road to Wrestlemania. I am sure each week will continue to get better and there will be more excitement leading up to Wrestlemania 32.
