New Leadership Needed in Detroit Sports

At four this afternoon when the trade deadline was done, I reazlied that now more then ever, three out of the four teams in Detroit need new leadership. Let's start with the Tigers. Dave Dombrowski should have been on the phone the night Magglio Ordonez went down, trying to make any deal he possibly could to get two possibly three hitters. Over the last three years, the Tigers have been idle at the deadline and it has resulted in them coming up short. You look at all the moves teams made, and teams that are worst off then the Tigers came out better. My other biggest problem is Jim Leyland. The guy was great his first year but some of his moves are very questionable and have been for quite some time now. I think Dombrowski and Leyland need to be let go at the end of the year. One trip to the World Series doesn't give you the right to be stupid for the next four years after. It's offcial as of today, the Tigers season is over.

Next up is the Pistons and how they sat idle this off-season as well. They signed their draft pick and that's it. There were a lot of good players out there that would have been nice additions to the roster. Joe D doesn't deserve that much credit for the success of the Pistons. He had a lot of help from the late Bill Davidson and the late Chuck Daley. Drafting Darko, and trading Chauncey Billups or two of the dumbest things that have ever been done by a team. I don't think the Pistons are going to be good again for a while. They built their future around Ben Gordon and Charlie V. That should tell you something right there, because I could think of 10 guys better that they could have signed. Detroit Basketball is in some trouble the next few years.

Then last but certainly not least, you have the beloved Lions. They have a President who likes to drink and drive, and an owner who could give a crap less about the team. They don't know what an offensive line is, they draft underrated Quarterbacks, and the good guys they do have leave once their contracts expire. I mean 0-16 was embarrassing two years ago. I just wish the Lions would sign players in their prime, not the ones who are washed up. The day the Lions return to the post-season I will celebrate big time and I am not even a Lions fan.

I can't really complain about the Red Wings because they have been successful since like 1997. They are starting to get old and need to get younger otherwise they are going to struggle like they did last year. I know they have good leadership and will do what they have to so they can win.

Sports in Detroit are starting to decline with all the bad decisions and the economy the way it is. However these owners are millionaires who should be doing whatever it takes to win. Detroit is a good market and a good sports town. Their fans are also great and deserve the best.

Please Detroit give us your best, because we the fans deserve it. A change is needed, and it's needed now.

What I've Missed This Summer in Sports

Well it's been a very busy summer for me and I would like to first apologize to all of my readers for not writing a lot this summer. So here are my thoughts of all the things that have happened this summer.

I obviously wrote about Lebron James a while back so there is no need to go into great detail about that but they have added some nice pieces to the big three. Teams like Orlando, Boston, and Phoenix.

Stephen Strasburg has become an instant phenom in baseball. This guy has been really impressive and I really think he will have a great future in baseball. He is not the only rookie in baseball that's done some great things. The Detroit Tigers have Austin Jackson, and Brennan Boesch who have been very key to how good the Tigers have been this year.

As most of you know, Cliff Lee got his wish and got the hell out of Seattle. He is now pitching for the Texas Rangers who are in first place in the AL West. Speaking of surprises, I am really shocked to see Atlanta, Cincinnati, and San Diego do so well. It's about time some of these teams do good. The trade deadline is 8 days away so it will be interesting to see what happens. Stay tuned for more one that.

Earlier this month Brock Lesnar made his return to the octagon and defeated the very talented Shane Carwin. People have had their doubts about Lesnar but I believe most of them have been put to rest. Brock doesn't fight again until the fall.

My favorite part of this summer was July 4th weekend when I watched Dale Earnhardt Jr. get behind the wheel of the number 3 Wrangler Jeans Chevy which was a replica of what his dad drove earlier in his career. It was so great to see Dale Jr. go to victory lane in the Nationwide race that night. If it was the last time we see the number 3 then it went out the way it should have. I am really glad that Dale Jr. did that for his dads fans. His dad would be very proud of him.

As far as my fantasy sports are concerned, I've totally slacked off. My baseball team is dead last in my league. I missed the British Open, haven't played Streak for the Cash or even saw how I did in the World Cup games on ESPN. I am going to get motivated and start focusing on my sports writing again. I am going to be back better then over and more opinionated. Thanks everyone for your patience. Keep on reading.

Thoughts on ECW in TNA

Last night I watched TNA Impact and heard Tommy Dreamer's promo on what ECW and TNA meant to him and how they were simliar. I couldn't agree more with him on everything he had to say. I don't think what he said was scripted. I really thought it was very heart felt and real. For weeks, the ECW originals have been showing up in TNA and last week there was the brawl that ended the show.

I believe bringing in ECW to TNA is a great thing for pro wrestling. I think the originals will blend in well with the current TNA roster. TNA is trying everything it can to compete with the WWE and this could be the one thing that might get them over the hump. The pro wrestling fans have wanted to see hardcore wrestling for a while now. WWE has become watered down, stale, predictable and boring. TNA will be getting all those ECW fans that hate what WWE stands for.

Get ready TNA, because the Impact Zone is about to get extreme. Stay tuned for more on this ECW reunion for one night only. I'll have more.

Thoughts on Lebron James to Miami and More

Well it's a been awhile since I've last posted, but now I actually have something to write about once again. After eight days of spectulation, Lebron James finally made his decision. He is going down to South Beach to play for the Miami Heat next season. He now joins Chris Bosh and Dwayne Wade as probably one of the deadliest trio's to ever hit the hardwood of a basketball court.

A lot of people are already saying that Miami is already the front runner to win the NBA Championship. However people are forgetting that other teams have made moves. Here is what some of the other teams have done.

Chicago Bulls signed Carlos Boozer and Kyle Korver
New York Knicks signed Amare Stoduimire and Raymond Felton
Orlando Magic signed Chris Duhon
Phoenix Suns re-signed Channing Frye and signed Hakim Warrick.
Boston Celtics signed Jermaine O'Neal

Even though Miami has got three of the biggest stars, these other teams have filled pieces to make their teams stronger. Miami doesn't not have the depth on their bench that a Boston, or Orlando have. It should be an interesting season this coming season.

As for the city of Cleveland, I do feel extremely bad for them. They are hurt, angered and upset by what their former hero has done. I don't blame Lebron for wanting to win but the way he has gone about it is all wrong. He dragged it on a lot longer then it should have been. I believe the Cavaliers are going to be hurting for a long time over this.

There is a lot of backlash in Cleveland from the fans, and owner Dan Gilbert. The last thing I would like to say, is remember the 2003-04 L.A. Lakers when they had all those ego's. They lost in the finals, and everyone went their own way. Or you can remember the Boston Celtics from two years ago. They put their ego's aside and won a championship. Which will happen? Only time will tell. Stay tuned for more.
