Review and Recap of WWE Extreme Rules 2012

After watching WWE Extreme Rules I must say I am impressed and definitely surprised how great the pay-per-view was. Usually the last few years when WWE has had gimmick PPV's they flop and dont live up to the hype. This one was great from the opening bell to the final one.

Kane and Orton was the opening match and it was physically as you might expect. I really like this feud unlike a lot of others. I think its always a great thing to see when two characters have no remorse for what they do to each other. I also enjoyed Ryder's involvement in the whole thing because he and Kane have unfinished business. Orton eventually won with an RKO on the chair and it was a great way to start the show.

Brodus Clay and Dolph Ziggler had a solid match which saw Ziggler take some really sick bumps in the ring. Ziggler makes so many people look good and also gets himself over in the process. Ziggler may have lost but he is sure showing people that he can work with anyone in the company and make them look good.

Big Show and Cody Rhodes has a short but to the point match in a tables match. Big Show lost in a really funny but bad way. He stepped through the table after being dropkicked off the ring apron by Cody Rhodes. It was short and sweet but aftermath of this match is what continued the rivalry. Props to Cody for taking the second table bump. It looked brutal and painful!

This next match did not last eighteen seconds. It lasted a lot longer and should have been the match that was on Wrestlemania. Sheamus and Daniel Bryan went at it in a 2 out of 3 falls match. It went back and forth the entire time and Daniel Bryan showed why he is a submission specialist. He stretched Sheamus to his limits in the match but Sheamus proved he can work a long main event match and make it look awesome. Sheamus won the match but props to Daniel Bryan for carrying the psychology of the match.

All I am going to say about Ryback is he looked impressive beating up two skinny dudes from St. Louis. The Chicago crowd made me laugh when they were chanting "Goldberg!" I hate to say it but Ryback is Goldberg all over again. Comes in, kicks butt, and then leaves. I heard Vince loves him and that's why he is being pushed hard as a monster right now.

Chicago's intensity didn't stop there. CM Punk defended his WWE Championship against Chris Jericho in a good old fashion Chicago Street Fight. This match had so much emotion, so much intensity, and many risks to it. Punk had his hometown behind him and his family at ringside which made it even more of a dramatic story. In the end it was a GTS that put Jericho away. A lot of people said this was a match of the year candidate and I couldn't agree more. This was just as good, if not better then their match at Wrestlemania. I will interested to see where these two go next.

As you know I am not much of a WWE Diva supported but I thought it was great to see Layla make her return after a year long absence and win the Diva's title. I think some big things are going to happen to the Diva's division soon and I think this was just the start of it. I would stay tuned to see where this division goes.

Finally, the Main Event of what was a solid Pay-Per-View had arrived. Lesnar vs. Cena in an Extreme Rules match. This match lived up to the hype and it was all you expected and more. There was blood, bruises, broken bones, and straight up pure violence. A lot of people hate the slower style that big men wrestle in but I loved it. I thought it had the perfect chemistry, and psychology to a match featuring two big men. Lesnar proved to he could do better then what he did at Wrestlemania 20 when he wrestled Goldberg. Cena took one hell of a beating but in the end he won with the Attitude Adjustment on the steel steps.

Even though Cena won he appeared to be injured after the match. No one really knows if it's legit or a storyline yet but he was talking to officials like he was hurt bad. With that being said, the show was extremely awesome and one of the best PPV's in the last five years. If you missed Extreme Rules be sure to watch the replay or buy it on DVD when it comes out. It will be well worth the money. WWE finally got extreme again and now they have momentum again. What they will do with the momentum remains to be seen but Extreme Rules gets two thumbs up and a rating of 8.5 out of 10. Chicago was indeed wild, crazy and extreme.

Experiencing WWE Live

In November 1996 I went to my first pro wrestling event. It was WCW Monday Nitro. I had always loved wrestling as a kid and enjoyed watching it on TV. Over the last 15 years I have been to five Nitro's, two Smackdown's, two Raw's, one WWE House show, and one TNA house show. It's always easy to criticize when you're home and watching it on TV. Last night's event was in my hometown of Grand Rapids, Michigan at Van Andel Arena. Not only were we treated to the Smackdown taping's, we also got to see NXT, and WWE Superstars. The show was over three hours long and well worth the price of admission. I am sure if I were at home this Friday and watching Smackdown I wouldn't have been into it as much as I was last night. There was a lot to cheer about last night.

For those who knock NXT, I believe it's a great concept and it gives the fans an idea of what superstars are possibly going to be great in the future. The wrestling is great, but the cheesy storylines we can do without. I hope they continue NXT and keep bringing up new talent. They had one superstars match which had The Uso's taking on Hunico and Camacho. It was a good solid tag match right before Smackdown.

Smackdown was a lot of fun especially with all the fun stuff Big Show was doing. He and Randy Orton were the dark match main event against Cody Rhodes and Daniel Bryan. I also enjoyed the Smackdown TV main event between Sheamus and Mark Henry. It was a good solid wrestling match for both of them. The price of admission was definitely worth it especially for the seats we had. We had some good seats but then again there is a not a bad sport in Van Andel Arena.

For anyone who is a a fan of WWE or pro wrestling go to a WWE show. The production and entertainment value is well worth the price of admission alone. Then to see your favorite superstars on top of it makes it all the more exciting. To see photos of last nights event go to https://www.facebook.com/HollywoodsWorldofSports and browse through the photos. You'll definitely understand when I say there is nothing like experiencing a pro wrestling show live.

Kick the New Orleans Saints Out of the NFL

During in this NFL off-season, it's been marred by controversy revolving around the New Orleans Saints. It started with the bounty scandal which uncovered players being told to intentionally hurt opposing players and receiving bonuses if they were successful. Roger Goodell punished the Saints heavily and made an example out of them that this type of thing will not be tolerated.

Now we fast forward a month later and another scandal has been uncovered. It is being reported that Saints GM Mickey Loomis wire tapped the opposing teams locker-rooms and sidelines when the Saints played home games. Not only does this violate the NFL policies, it also violates state and federal laws.

I think it's kind of funny that the Saints were once America's favorite team after Hurricane Katrina and now they have become one of the most vilified teams in sports. I know owner Tom Benson has had little to do with this but I believe the other league owners should vote to disband the New Orleans and kick them out of the NFL. There is no room in professional sports for this garbage. These athletes and front office people make millions of dollars and now they feel need to cheat. I am sure every team tries to get some sort of advantage but you know it's bad when you're break state and federal laws.

I really hope the Saints get punished even more. I really think they should be stripped of draft picks for 3 years. They do not deserve the right to get new and younger players. As a player I would not want to play for the Saints and have all the negative attention put on my team.

I believe the Saints need to be out of the NFL and the people involved in these scandals should be banned for life. I have seen and heard of a lot of scandals and cheating but this tops the list. My advice to owner Tom Benson would be to shut down the team or sell it. This will tarnish your legacy as a owner and people aren't going to want to do business with you..

There is no room for the Saints in the NFL. They have cheated the game, put players health at risk and they don't show any remorse for it. If I was Commissioner Goodell the Saints wouldn't be coming or marching in. They would be going and marching out.

NFL Off-Season Moves as of 4/18/2012

It's been a couple of weeks since I last reported and the player movement has really slowed down in the NFL off-season. With the draft just a few short weeks away teams are going to start looking at draft needs and not free agency.

-Carolina Panthers agreed to terms with WR Steve Smith on a three-year contract extension through the 2015 season.
-San Francisco 49ers signed RB Brandon Jacobs to a one-year contract.

-Chicago Bears agreed to terms with LB Lance Briggs on a one-year contract extension through the 2014 season.

-New Orleans Saints named Joe Vitt interim coach.

-Denver Broncos signed WR Brandon Stokley to a one-year contract.

Like I said the big moves are coming to an end and the time to prepare for the draft is now. The draft takes place April 26th-28th with most of the coverage taking place on ESPN. Stay tuned for more coverage on the NFL Draft.

Planning Wrestlemania 29...A Year Early

With all the hype of Wrestlemania 28 being done and over with, you now have the hype of Wrestlemania 29 to look forward to the next year. If I was a creative writer for WWE and had my way of what Wrestlemania 29 would like it would be filled with everything. It would have a lot less backstage and and wasteful segments. It would be non-stop action and have a little bit of everything that people would want to see. Here is how my Wrestlemania 29 card would turn out if it happened:

WWE Championship Match: Brock Lesnar vs. The Rock
Stone Cold Steve Austin vs.  CM Punk
John Cena vs. The Undertaker
World Heavyweight Championship Match: Randy Orton vs. Del Rio
Cruiserweight Title Match: Kofi Kingston vs. Sin Cara vs. Rey Mysterio
Tag Team Title Match: Uso's vs. Epico/Primo vs. Swagger/Ziggler vs. Tyson Kidd/Justin Gabriel
Batista vs. Ryback
United States Title Ladder Match: Christian vs. Santino vs. Zack Ryder vs. Sheamus vs. Lord Tensai vs. Drew McIntyre vs. Wade Barrett vs. The Miz (7 countries represented)
Intercontential Title Match: Cody Rhodes vs. Daniel Bryan
6-Man Monsters Tag Match: Big Show/Great Khali/Brodus Clay vs. Mark Henry/Kane/Jinder Mahal

Battle Royal featuring New York Jets, New York Giants, and WWE Superstars

I think if we had a Wrestlemania where all the titles are on the line and every match means something it would be the biggest and best Wrestlemania of all time. Wrestlemania 29 needs to be huge considering it's location and how big the advertising and marketing will be for it. This is my Wrestlemania dream card and I think it would be a good one. Brock Lesnar Returns to WWE.

If you don't follow pro wrestling on the internet then it came to you as a shock that Brock Lesnar returned last night on  Monday Night Raw. Even for those who do read the dirtsheets, rumors and reports it was still a spine chilling moment. Brock Lesnar has returned to the WWE after 8 years. His last match many consider to be the worst Wrestlemania match in the history of the event.

So where has Brock Lesnar been? Brock tried out for the NFL's Minnesota Vikings. His athletic ability was remarkable but he didn't have a football mindset. Then he wrestled for quite a long time in Japan where he had some memorable matches. The one I remember is his NJPW Heavyweight Title Match against Kurt Angle. Once that match was over he ventured into MMA and after one fight he was in the UFC. He worked in UFC for almost four years defeating Heath Herring, Frank Mir, Randy Couture and Shane Carwin. For those who say he couldn't handle the UFC take a look at those names and tell me he couldn't handle.

During this time he was diagnosed and treated for diverticulitis which in my opinion made him weaker and a lot more vulnerable to punishment in his ribs and kidneys. He lost his last two fights against Cain Velasquez and Alistair Overeem. However after his last loss some started to wonder if he would go back to the WWE.

The Brock Lesnar-WWE rumors started in October 2010 when The Undertaker confronted Lesnar after his lost to Cain Velasquez at UFC 121. Now you fast forward a year and a half and he makes his return to the WWE one day after Wrestlemania. Ten years ago he made his WWE debut the day after Wrestlemana.

So what does the future hold for Brock Lesnar? Who will he wrestle? And who will his opponent be at Wrestlemania 29? Stay tuned because it's going to be an interesting year long ride.
