Hollywood's Rejects Players of the Week

Well another losing streak started. This sucks. I am now 2-10.

Edwards Play Makers (EDWA)(5-7) 183.5
Hollywood's Rejects (HWOO)(2-10)107.5

My best two pitchers this week were Scott Richmond and Edwin Jackson. My best two hitters were Brandon Inge and Casey Blake. Inge has been on a tear having the best season of his career. Well until next week, hopefully I will win. Probably not though. I am dead last and probably can't come back. There is always next year.

Fallout from WWE The Bash

Last night at The Bash there wasn't a lot of shockers except for this picture. It was suppose to be Legacy vs. The Colons for the Unified WWE Tag Titles but at the last minute Edge and Chris Jericho were added to the match and made it a triple threat match. As you can see they won the Tag Titles.

However this wasn't the only title change of the night. Michelle McCool became WWE Women's Champion by defeating Melina in a very competitive title match. Michelle became the first ever to hold the Diva's and Women's title. The other title change came when Rey Mysterio defeated Chris Jericho for the Intercontinental Title. It was probably the best match of the night, but that should be nothing new because Mysterio and Jericho have always had good matches when they wrestle each other.

All three World Champions retained their titles. Tommy Dreamer fought his way to victory in a Scramble match against four other competitors. CM Punk got himself disqualified after kicking the referee and Randy Orton with help from Legacy beats Triple H in the Three Stages of Hell match. It was an okay pay-per-view. Not the best but not the worst. Next pay-per-view is Night of Champions. All the title on the line so it should be interesting.

Hockey Hall of Fame Class of 2009

The other day the Hockey Hall of Fame Class of 2009 was announced and what better man to go into the Hall then "The Captain" himself Steve Yzerman. His accomplishments are endless. So here is just a few of them.

Ten time All Star
Lester B. Pearson Award - 1989
Conn Smythe Trophy - 1998
Frank J. Selke Trophy - 2000
Stanley Cup Champion- 1997, 1998, 2002, 2008 (Executive)
Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy - 2003
Lester Patrick Trophy - 2006
Sixth in NHL history in points, eighth in goals and seventh in assists
First in Red Wings history in assists; second in points and goals; third in games played
Longest-serving captain for a team in league history

He is currently the Vice President for the Red Wings and has built a winning team with a lot of solid players. His number 19 jersey hangs high in Joe Louis Arena. However Yzerman is not the only great player going in this year. He has two of his former teammates going in as well.

Brett Hull is one of the most recognizable names in professional hockey. He is an eight time All Star and he won the Stanley Cup with the Dallas Stars in 1999 and the Detroit Red Wings in 2002. He also has won some awards in his career including:

Named an NHL First Team All-Star in 1990, 1991 and 1992.
Won the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy in 1990.
Won the Hart Memorial Trophy in 1991.
Won the Lester B. Pearson Award in 1991.
Won the Dudley "Red" Garrett Memorial Award in 1987.

Brett Hull deserves his place in the Hall of Fame along with his father Bobby which makes them the first ever father-son duo to be in the Hall of Fame

Next up is Luc Robitaille who played with the Los Angeles Kings for the majority of his career but joined the Red Wings for two years and won the Stanley Cup with them in 2002. He two has a stellar resume which includes:

Calder Memorial Trophy - 1987
Named to the NHL All-Rookie Team - 1987
Played in Eight NHL All-Star Games
Lifetime Achievement Award from the Aquatic Foundation of Metropolitan Los Angeles (on June 8, 2006)
2007 Great Ones Award from the Jim Murray Memorial Foundation

Robitaille is definitely deserving of this honor and will always be remembered by hockey fans everywhere. I am glad he was apart of the 2002 team that won the Stanley Cup in Detroit

Last but not least is Brian Leetch who seems like he has done it all. Spent most of his career with the New York Rangers and won the Stanley Cup with them in 1994. He is another one whose accomplishments are endless.

Ten time All Star
Olympic silver medal (2002)
Olympic Tournament All-Star Team (2002)
James Norris Memorial Trophy (Defenseman of the Year) (1992, 1997)
NHL First All-Star Team (1992, 1997)
NHL Second All-Star Team (1991, 1994, 1996)
Stanley Cup champion (1994)
Conn Smythe Trophy (Playoffs MVP) (1994)
Calder Memorial Trophy (Rookie of the Year) (1989)
NHL All-Rookie Team (1989)
NCAA East First All-American Team (1987)
HS Player of the Year (1987)
HS Rookie of the Year (1987)
HS Tournament MVP Award (1987)
HS First All-Star Team (1987)
HS All-Rookie Team (1987)
Won gold medal at 1996 World Cup of Hockey - Was the captain of Team USA

With all that being said there is a reason Leetch is in the Hall of Fame. All four players played more then twenty years. This is definitely an impressive class this year. I am just really excited for Stevie Y. He has definitely been the face of all Detroit sports for the last twenty years. Congrats to all the Hall of Fame inductees.

Hollywood's Rejects Players of the Week

Well after winning one week I am back to losing again. Not only did I lose, I lost really bad. Here's the final score

Hollywood's Rejects (HWOO)(2-9) 170.5
We're Juicin' (ROID)(9-2) 505

My best hitters this week were Russell Martin and Brandon Inge. My best pitchers this week were Scott Richmond and Andy Pettitte. All of my pitchers did well but those are the two who stepped up the most. Well next week hopefully I'll have a win on my hands.

And the Detroit Pistons Select...

With the 2009 NBA Draft just days away one has two wonder who the Detroit Pistons will select. Here is what some of the experts around the country are saying.

Sean Deveney from Sporting News- Austin Daye, SF, Gonzaga
Tony Mejia from Pro Basketball News- Terrence Williams, G/F, Louisville
Sam Amico from Pro Basketball News- Tyler Hansbrough, PF, North Carolina
Hoops World- Earl Clark, SF/PF, Louisville
Christopher Reina from Real GM- Demar DeRozan, Guard/Forward, USC
Steve Alexander from NBC/Rotoworld.com- B.J. Mullens, C, Ohio State
Jeff Lenchiner from Inside Hoops- DeJuan Blair, PF, Pittsburgh
Shawn Siegel from College Hoops Net- Stephen Curry, Davidson, PG/SG
Jonathan Givony from Draft Express- Austin Daye, Gonzaga, SF/PF

Well I don't know what to say. Only two people have something in common. I would love to see Stephen Curry or my man Tyler Hansbrough. My interest in college basketball peaked this past year because of Hansbrough and Griffin. Who do you think the Detroit Pistons should select?

The new Gatorade commercial rocks

I usually don't write about commercials on TV but I think the new Gatorade commercial is one of the best they have ever done. This commercial gets your adrenaline going. For those of you who haven't seen it yet. Check it out. It's got a little bit old school and new school in it.

Pudge sets record

The other night Pudge Rodriguez set the record for the most games caught by a catcher passing Hall of Famer Carlton Fisk. Ironically he did it against the team he started with, the Texas Rangers in Arlington. I've always respected Pudge as a player and credit him for being a huge part of the turn around the Detroit Tigers had.

Pudge has one World Series Ring to his credit, and that was with the improbable Florida Marlins team who ended up beating the New York Yankees. If you ask me Pudge Rodriguez will will go down as one of the best catchers of all time if not the best. Congratulations Pudge on setting a record that's going to be hard to catch.

Couture Vs. Nogueira set for UFC 102

In the battle of the old dinosaurs, on August 29th at UFC 102 Randy Couture will take on Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. Last time I saw these two they both lost. Couture losing to Lesnar and Nogueira losing to Mir. This match right here could determine who faces the Undisputed UFC Heavyweight Champion. We will find out on July 11th at UFC 100 when Brock Lesnar faces Frank Mir.

Getting back to UFC 102. This fight is going to prove a lot of things. It's going to prove if they both still have what it takes and it will prove if they have the desire to get the UFC Heavyweight title back around their waist. I think it's going to be a classic battle, one that will last all three rounds. Both men know that their careers are coming to an end and one of them wants to go out on top. UFC 102 should be a good pay per view. Other matches include:

Keith Jardine Vs. Thiago Silva
Chris Leben Vs. Jake Rosholt
Nate Marquardt Vs. Demian Maia
Matt Hamill Vs. Brandon Vera

UFC keeps pulling out all the stops and keeps bringing their fans incredible fight. I am sure UFC 102 won't be any different. Tune in July 11th for the historical UFC 100 live only one PPV.

Sammy Sosa and steroids...are you shocked?

Yesterday ESPN showed that the New York Times had reported that Sammy Sosa tested positive for performance enhancing drugs. Does that surprise any of you? Well it doesn't surprise me. If you look at it from the big picture, look how skinny he and Mark McGwire were when they first started then look how freaking huge they got in just a matter of a couple of years. In 1998, they became the heroes that brought baseball back to the forefront after about five years of no one caring about the sport.

Unfortunately you can add Sosa to the long list of names that include Clemens, Bonds and countless others who will not be in the Hall of Fame due to the fact that they used steroids and cheated the game. If some reason they get in then Pete Rose should be allowed in because he indirectly affected the game. These guys affected the game directly and broke records and set records that might not ever be broken. Guys like Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio, Willie Mays, and others didn't need steroids to accomplish the things they did.

I will say this I think it's ridiculous that baseball is the only one being singled out. I guarantee you there's performance enhancing drug problems in the NFL but because the NFL is such an American sport the government doesn't go after them like they do MLB. It's all about politics, it really is. Sooner then later there will come a point in time where every sport is targeted for steroids because once they clean up baseball then how are the politicians going to stay busy? Simple, go after another sports.

Lastly, I also think it's ridiculous that only the so called big name players are the only names that get released in these reports. If you are going to release one players name, you should release them all. Only time will tell whose names appear on the lists. Until then I guess we will have to wait and see.

Historical Raw sees new owner, and champion

Just when I've seen every angle or heard about any angle WWE finds away to surprise us again. Vince McMahon announced that he "sold" Monday Night Raw and said that he never thought he would sell Raw to one of his rivals. The new owner of Monday Night Raw is Donald Trump. The Donald's fist act is announcing that Monday Night Raw will be commercial free for the first time ever next week. Also Randy Orton regained the WWE title in a fatal four way making him a five time champion. Tommy Dreamer and CM Punk both retained their respective titles.

Also announced for next week is a Last Man Standing Match between Randy Orton and Triple H. It will be for the WWE Championship. They will also square of in a title match at The Bash in two weeks. Also announced for The Bash is World Champion CM Punk will be defending his title against Jeff Hardy. Also the Colon's will be defending the unified tag team titles against Ted Dibiase and Cody Rhodes.

With all this news then ironic thing is the WWE Stock dropped today. However, Trump being involved will make for great entertainment. Stay tuned for more in this developing situation....By the way where was Ric Flair last night?

Julia's Jackals (JACK)(4-6) 154

My best hitters this week were Alex Rios and Yunel Escobar. My best pitchers were Jason Marquis and Carlos Zambrano. Good job guys. Well can I keep on my winning ways? Well you'll have to find our next week to see if I do. Until then, have a good one.

NHL gives Crosby his first Cup plus more

The biggest travesty happened last night as the Pittsburgh Penguins were given the Stanley Cup. NBC got their game seven and the NHL got their most marketable player his first Stanley Cup. Like I said sports is a business and when people realize this, sports will change forever. Even the bias play by play broadcasters said the officiating was bad. The Penguins win and the commissioner couldn't be any happier this morning as he saw dollar signs all the way to bank. I am really hoping Crosby gets taken out next year along with his Malkin. That's another rigged thing is the MVP. Marc Andre-Fluery should have won the Conn Smyth trophy. It's political just like everything else in the world.

I can already predict the future for Baseball this year. If you could have the perfect storyline for baseball that would make a lot of money what would it be? The Dodgers vs. Yankees or Dodgers vs. Red Sox. People want to see Manny take on his old team or Joe Torre manage against his. There is a reason that the Dodgers weren't schedule to take on the Yanks or Red Sox in inter-league play because MLB wants to them face each other in the World Series and make their money in what would be one of the most anticipated series in sports history. If the Dodgers and the Yanks/Red Sox don't go then I could be wrong, but I have a feeling I am not. Wait until October and see. When it happens you can all stop calling me crazy.

Sports is a Business

So a lot of people are throwing a fit about the scheduling of sports last night. The NHL and NBA finals were virtually on at the same time. NBC vs. ABC were competing for ratings hard last night. I can tell you this much there is a reason this happened. Hockey is trying to become an exciting sport once again and draw viewers. In my own personal opinion the NHL playoffs have been better then the NBA playoffs by far. What people have to understand is sports are a business like anything else and they will do what they need to do to make money. For example, there is a reason that a game seven will happen Friday Night. They want to make money and have great ratings. The beautiful thing for them is that they are unopposed so they will draw millions of viewers. People don't think sports are rigged or have an shadiness to them but here are some examples of what I mean sports being a business.

Example 1: Did you ever noticed when the last game of the Final Four happens, the opening day of baseball is on the same day or the Monday Night Raw after Wrestlemania is on as well. If NCAA moved the game to a Saturday Night it would probably draw more interest (depending on the teams playing as well)

Example 2: Ever noticed that WWE, TNA and UFC never schedule their pay-per-views on the same days. Why? Because WWE would probably win those battles because WWE has the greater fan base. However UFC is smart because they have their pay-per-views on Saturday Nights which makes it easier for people to watch. Just think if WWE switched to Saturday Nights?

Example 3: You notice in the fall and winter no other major sporting events really happen on Monday Nights because of Monday Night Football. Nine times out of ten, MNF usually has the most viewers, unless Monday Night Raw beats them.

People are ignorant to think that some sports aren't rigged. Lets look at some scenarios

Scenario 1: Super Bowl XL was in Detroit. How funny that the Seattle Seahawks were the most dominant team in the league that and somehow they got beat by the Steelers. The back story is that it Jerome Bettis was playing in his hometown and that it would be his last game...Come on it was even admitted by the league that refs made some bad calls.

Scenario 2: The NBA had been struggling with ratings in the NBA Finals over the last few years. What better way to solve that problem? Have the two most storied franchises and one of the greatest rivalries reignite itself. Last years Celtics vs. Lakers Finals match up drew big numbers. Look how easy it was for the Celtics to get Garnett. The Celtics virtually gave up nothing to get him. I think the league had their hand in making that trade so easy.

Scenario 3: Last night, the officiating was totally scrutinized in favor of the Penguins because NHL, and NBC wanted to see a game seven to get their ratings up and become a popular sport again. It's working because I am not a hockey fan and I am more interested then I have ever been.

Have you also noticed as well that NASCAR drivers are actually starting to develop more personalities and that fights and aggressive racing isn't having as many consequences as it use to. They are struggling and so they are being allowed more freedom so they can draw interest from people.

I am not saying that sports are always rigged all the time but if a sport is struggling they will do what it takes to make it so their sport excels. People might think I am crazy, ignorant, and naive. I observe stuff very closely and notice trends that make sports successful. I hope people realize that it's not all about competition. Most of it is about money and who can make the most.

The Extreme Road to the Bash

This past Sunday Extreme Rules was history making night. All five singles titles changed hands last week with four of them being at Extreme Rules. The ECW title is now held by Tommy Dreamer who at long last has won the title after nine years of trying to recapture it. Batista defeated Randy Orton in a steel cage to win the WWE Title. Chris Jericho defeated Rey Mysterio to win the Intercontinental Title for the ninth time. The biggest shocker of the night is when Jeff Hardy defeated Edge to become World Heavyweight Champion. However, it didn't last long because CM Punk cashed in Money in the Bank and won the World Heavyweight Title for a 2nd time.

However the craziness didn't stop there. Last night on Monday Night Raw, Batista was attacked, Vicki Guerrero quit the WWE and just when you thought Randy Orton was going to regain the WWE title outcomes Triple H and destroys everything in his sight. The next PPV is just a few short weeks away, and with a three hour Monday Night Raw next week anything can happen. I'll be curious to see what happens on ECW and Smackdown this week. I have a feeling it's only going to get crazier.

Hollywood's Rejects Players of the Week

Another week, another loss and that puts me at 1-8. I don't believe there is any hope for the future at least for this year. I don't know what to say. My best hitters were Ian Stewart and Jorge Cantu. My best pitchers were Joe Blanton and Edwin Jackson.

One can only hope that I actually might win one more game this year. This is totally embarrassing for me and I hope my players will turn it around. Until next week we'll have to wait and see.

Dynasty vs. Legacy

There is not much in WWE right that's very appealing to me except two factions. Two factions full of 2nd or 3rd generation superstars. These two factions look to be very dominant. Lets start with the first faction which is known as The Legacy.

The Legacy is led by current WWE Champion Randy Orton, son of Cowboy Bob Orton Jr. His two mates are Cody Rhodes, son of the Dusty Rhodes and Ted Dibiase, son of the Million Dollar Man. This group has been dominant since late last year. Rhodes and Dibiase are two time tag team champions and nothing at the point will stop them. Orton looks to hold the WWE Championship for a very long time. Orton is taking the lessons he learned from Evolution and applying them to Legacy. Cody Rhodes and Ted Dibiase are future singles champions in this business and look for them to breakout real soon.

I can tell you right now, growing up as a kid I loved the Hart Foundation as a tag team. They had some of the greatest matches with the likes of Demolition, The Bulldogs, Rockers, and more. Then in 1997 the New Foundation came and had the whole family which was totally awesome. Now over 10 years later their name, their legacy, and the dynasty is back. The Hart Dynasty features David Hart Smith, son of the British Bulldog, Natalya the daughter of Jim Neidhart and Tyson Kidd, who met the Harts when he was just 10 years old. Technically he is in the family because he is dating Natalya. These three dawn the old pink and black and their finisher is Hart Attack. I look for these three to do some great things in the future. When the time comes the Hart Dynasty will be unleashed on Monday Nights or Friday Night. When it does beware. Like I said, these two factions are the only thing the keeps me interested in the WWE. Continue to show more of these two factions and you'll keep me happy. Maybe someday they can call themselves The Best there is, the best there was and the best that their ever will be.

WBBL now on FM Radio

My favorite sports channel, WBBL 1340 has a new home and it's on FM radio. It's now on 107.3, the former station of KLQ. A lot of people are upset about this because KLQ was the premier hard rock station in West Michigan. I understand why the listeners are upset because their are not many hard rock radio stations out there, especially in West Michigan. However I think having sports radio on FM is awesome because it allows people to listen to the games when they don't have a TV in front of them. As we all know AM radio stations have crappy sound and don't get the best reception sometimes.

Studies have also showed that the numbers for KLQ have dropped off significantly and that the numbers for WBBL have increased. People love talking about sports and people love hearing about sports. It doesn't seem fair but whats done is done. 107.3 is now WBBL, ESPN radio, On the Bench, Huge Show and yes even Jim Rome. It should be interesting to see how they do. I am looking forward to it.

Lebron James is a sore loser

Quit making excuses, quit giving him a pass and quit acting like he's the best thing basketball. Lebron showed his true colors last week when the Cavaliers lost to the Magic. He didn't even have enough class to shake anyone's hand on the Magic team. I don't care what he says about not liking to lose. Nobody likes to lose but that doesn't excuse you from being a jerk. They call him King James, but I think he should be called Crybaby James. It is simple, you lost and now you're done for the year. Maybe if you would actually get a team around you then you could win a championship. I for one am happy that Orlando is going because no one expected them to be there. Well enough about Lebron I am looking forward to Dwight Howard in the finals. Tune in Thursday for game one. It's going to be awesome.

WWE Extreme Rules this Sunday

Well if you like blood, violence and craziness then this is the pay-per-view for you to watch. I love Extreme Rules but people should remember how it got started. It got started four years ago when ECW had One Night Stand, a one night only tribute to all the former ECW Stars. Now it's a WWE pay-per-view that a lot of fans look forward to. Here is the lineup for Sunday's show:

-Miss WrestleMania Vickie Guerrero vs. Santina Marella (Hog Pen Match)
-United States Champion Kofi Kingston vs. MVP vs. William Regal vs. Matt Hardy (Fatal Four Way Match)
-ECW Champion Christian vs. Jack Swagger vs. Tommy Dreamer (Triple Threat Hardcore Rules Match)
-CM Punk vs. Umaga (Samoan Strap Match)
-John Cena vs. Big Show (Submission Match)
-World Heavyweight Champion Edge vs. Jeff Hardy (Ladder Match)
-Intercontinental Champion Rey Mysterio vs. Chris Jericho (No Holds Barred Match)
-WWE Champion Randy Orton vs. Batista (Steel Cage Match)

Look for Tommy Dreamer to do some crazy stuff because it is reportedly his last match. I also look for CM Punk to cash in Money in the Bank or one would think anyways. I think the match of the night could be the Fatal Four Way Match. All the matches look solid, so tune in Sunday to find out who will walk away without being destroyed.

Hollywood's Rejects Players of the Week

Well seven losses in a row is the breaking point for me. I can't believe I have lost seven in a row. Maybe fantasy baseball is not my strong point. This sucks on all levels.

Hollywood's Rejects (HWOO) (1-7)214.5
Asylum Street Spankers (RUSS) (2-6) 299

My best hitters were Alex Rios and Yunel Escobar even though they didn't do much. My best pitchers were Edwin Jackson and Joe Blanton who dominated the games they played. Well that's all I am talking about because now I am in dead last by myself. What else is new? Well hopefully next week when I report I will win a game. Don't bet on it though.
